Diocesan & Electoral Synods
The DMAS held an Electoral Synod to select the next bishop ordinary of the diocese on June 17, 2011 at the Dulles Marriott in Dulles, VA. Following 8 ballots the Synod was unable to elect a bishop. As a result, the election has been sent to the Anglican Catholic Church's College of Bishops for them to make a selection and election (meeting is in October).
The DMAS held its annual diocesan synod immediately following the electoral synod on June 17th. That synod moved the acceptance of the annual budget and heard various reports from the committees of the diocese. At the close of the synod, Bishop McClean officially retired as the diocese's fifth Bishop Ordinary. However, it was announced that he would become our Episcopal Visitor until such time as a Bishop is Elected, Consecrated and Enthroned.
Congratulations!!
Congratulations to John and Nina Lord who are the proud parents of a new baby girl!! Alice Faye Marie was welcomed into this world at 9am on June 25th (8lbs, 4oz & 20 inches). Congratulations to the Lord Family!!!

The Blessing of the Animals
On October 1st the Church of the Ascension celebrated the Feast of St. Francis of Assissi with the tradition of the Blessing of the Animals.
Father Weaver along with 10 others and 7 slightly damp doggies held a quick service (for the sanity of both pets and owners alike) to provide blessings upon the animals and all those who care for them. Each pet received a collar medal and yummy treats!!
Thanks to Celest Linthicum from the Centreville Patch for taking the great pictures and for the well written article covering the blessing.
XIX Provincial Synod of the Anglican Catholic Church
The Bishops, Clergy, and Layity of the Original Province of the Anglican Catholic Church met October 17-18 (College of Bishops) and October 19-21 (Synod) for the XIX Synod of the Church. The Synod conducted the normal business of the Synod by accepting and approving the Provincial Budget and receiving reports from Provincial departments and from Bishops from around the world.
Provincial appointments by Archbishop Haverland included Fr. Weaver as Deputy Bursar (Missionary Society of St. Paul), Debbie Weaver as Provincial Secretary, and Fr. Dennis Sossi as Provincial Registrar. Elections during the synod included Col. G. Hork Dimon as Deputy Speaker of the House of the Laity, Fr. Weaver as Recorder of the Senate of the Clergy, Fr. Don Poff to the Provincial Court, and Archdeacon C. Thomas McHenry as Prolocutor of the Senate of the Clergy.
The College of Bishops also announced the election of the Rev. Donald Lerow as bishop elect to the Military Ordinariate with their intent to name him as Episcopal Visitor to the Diocese of the Mid-Atlantic States and giving him full authority of a Bishop Ordinary. The College also announced their desire for the DMAS to eventually elect bishop elect Lerow as Ordinary and that the College would retain the right to appoint a bishop for the diocese at a later date if that becomes necessary.
Congratulations!!
